Car Insurance Rates Going Up Due to Drivers Texting while Driving

Most states have created laws that state that texting while driving is illegal. Now the illegal practice is increasing car insurance premium rates. This is mainly due to the fact that more drivers are being involved in automobile crashes due to becoming distracted while driving.

There have been approximately 24,000 accidents that resulted in injuries and 1,000 that resulted in deaths due to texting while driving. In 2005, more and more drivers began using their cell phones wile driving. The problem is daunting and auto insurers have had to increase their rates as a result.

Many drivers take their eyes off of the road in order to send a text message to a friend or family member. Sending a text might seem harmless because it takes less than one minute.

Auto Insurance Fraud Becoming More Prevalent

Auto insurance fraud is something that is becoming a problem in many states. Many politicians have tried to enact laws that will try to deter people from engaging in fraud but it is still going on every day in all of the 50 states.

A man from Peabody named Robert Geller decided to plead guilty to charges that he used his auto repair shop and glass repair shop to commit car insurance fraud. The man allegedly was able to bilk auto insurance companies to the tune of $28,000.

In all the man who is 53 years old was charged with a total of twenty counts of auto insurance fraud, eighteen counts of larceny over $250, and two counts of attempoted larceny.

As a part of his agreement with the Attorney Generals office, he must pay back all of the money that he obtained fraudulently and he will be on probation for nine months.

A monitored home security system can save you on your home insurance costs but sometimes it takes more to keep unwanted people, such as thieves, safely away from your home.

Here are some good tricks to detract thieves from your house, especially if you are a woman or are elderly and living alone: Have a man say your answering machine greeting, get a large pair of men’s work boots to put outside your door, add a man’s name to your mailbox, put large dog dishes visible outside, and add a “beware of dog” sign to your doors and windows. Now.. the intruders think you have a man and dog in the house and you don’t even have to pick up after them!

MA Now Makes It Illegal to Consider a Credit Score When Assigning Auto Insurance Premiums
