Example Declarations Page
Your auto insurance policy contains a declarations page which will layout out the coverage you’ve purchased from your auto insurance carrier. This is absolutely one page you should have in front of you at the time you begin shopping for auto insurance. This page contains some needed information in assure you will get an accurate rate quote. One other document you may want to have in front of you is your vehicle registration. This may help in being sure you provide an accurate VIN number for the vehicle(s) you plan to insure.
Basically what you will see on top is the company name, the policy period and the policy number. The policy period will provide both the start date and the expiration date. Now unfortunately every auto insurance declarations page is not going to be formatted the same exact way but pretty darn close…
The next Information near the top of the page will contain the name and address of the policy holder as well as the Agent or Broker information. This will be followed by the details on each vehicle on the policy including the year, make, model and VIN number. Some declaration pages will also contain the driver information, license numbers etc. If your declarations page doesn’t contain this there should be a page within your documents that does. Sometimes it can be
difficult tracking down license numbers if you have a few teen drivers on the policy.
The next portion of the document will provide coverage information starting with liability limits, deductibles, additional optional coverage with an amount listed for each part of coverage. Here’s where you’ll be able to determine where your highest charges are coming from.
Near the bottom of the page you may see some discounts applied to your policy. This is where you will also so your totaled premium followed by some additional exclusion details.
